The Elections for the positions on the National Executive.
In accordance with the Party’s Constitution, the National Executive Committee holds office for a
Three (3) Year term. Our last elections were in 2014. As such the Activist Council of the Party
decided that:
(a) Nominations for all the positions on the National Executive Committee should be held on
Friday November 10 th , 2017 between the hours of 9 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 4pm.
Nominations will take place at the Party’s Office, 22-26 St. Joseph Road, San Fernando.
(b) If necessary, Elections for the posts will take place on Sunday November 19 th , 2017 during the
morning session of the Party’s Special Congress which takes place that day.
(c) The Elections Committee will be comprised of: Mr. Lennox Sankersingh Attorney at Law; Mr.
Gregory Marchan former Executive Vice President of the OWTU; and Ms. Cassandra Tommy
General Secretary of the Amalgamated Workers’ Union. Both Mr. Marchan and Ms. Tommy
are members of the Party’s Activist Council.
(d) The posts on the National Executive Committee are: Chairperson; Deputy Chairperson; Political
Leader; Deputy Political Leader; General Secretary; Assistant General Secretary; Treasurer;
Education Officer; Elections Officer; International Relations Officer; Party Organiser; Public
Relations Officers; Social Services Officer.
2. The Special Congress - Sunday November 19 th 2017.
The Special Congress of the MSJ will take place on Sunday November 19 th from 8 am to 4 pm. The
venue is being finalized and we will inform you of this in a day or two.
(a) Our Programme starts with Registration at 8 am
(b) There will be a Health Fair from 8.30 am to 10 am. You should take advantage of this!
(c) From 9 am to 12 noon there will be a Special Forum of the Youth for Social Justice and all
young people are invited to participate in this. Members should encourage their young people –
age 16-30 to participate in this Youth Forum
(d) From 9 am to 12 noon there will be an Open Discussion Forum – The People Speak – at which
you our members and supporters will take the floor and speak to the Party’s Leadership
(e) Lunch will be provided and will be from 12 noon to 1 pm
(f) The Business Session of the Special Congress will start at 1 pm. Items on the Agenda will be:
- Report of the Elections Committee and ratification by the Congress
- General Secretary’s Report
- Audited Financial Statements and Budget
- Political Leader’s Address
- Fraternal Greetings by Guests
